PrepNow Tutor - Amy M.

A person who cares deeply about her family, friends, and community, Amy naturally also cares deeply about her students and their success. She received a BA in journalism at Texas A&M University and her JD from Tulane Law School, after which she practiced transactional law for several years and tutoring. Now with over ten years of tutoring experience, Amy is on a hiatus from practicing law and is currently teaching LSAT, GRE, GMAT, ACT, and SAT test prep courses and workshops. She is determined to prevent these exams from blocking students from entering college.
While Amy initially was skeptical of standardized testing, she has since become convinced of the value of preparing for exams. She notes, “While not everyone may come to love these tests, I do believe that all students can come to appreciate them. Practicing...completely changes a student's way of thinking if done properly.” She loves teaching test prep as it offers the opportunity to work one-on-one with a student to determine where strengths and weaknesses lie and allows her to provide tips for improvement and alternative ways of approaching problems. She has worked with thousands of students and tailors all of her sessions to the individual needs of each student. Because each student begins a test prep course with a different amount of knowledge and skill set, some simply need to make minor adjustments, while others need to revisit concepts or learn new skills for the first time.
For the last several years, Amy has served on the boards of various nonprofit organizations. Although she received many academic honors in college and law school, she has most received recognition for volunteer work for PTA, Girl Scouts, and the National Charity League. In high school, she participated in student council, the National Honor Society, and band. In college, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and was selected to be a member of moot court in law school. As a mom of a teenage daughter, much of Amy's time is devoted to parenting. However, she also volunteers at her daughter's school and elsewhere in the community, and whatever time is leftover is spent working out.
