PrepNow Tutor - Matthew T.
Matthew earned his BA in English and theatre from Beloit College. For several years, he worked as a teacher in after-school programs and early learning, which inspired him to earn his teaching licensure from the University of Minnesota. He taught subjects in math and technology at a public school for several years after that. Since having his first child, he enjoys tutoring from home so he can spend more time with his family.
Matthew’s tutoring style is all about curiosity and critical thinking. “I ask them lots of questions to encourage them to come up with their own answers. I then ask them to tell me their thought processes,” he says. His goal is for students to understand the concepts behind the skills rather than just rely on memorization. His patience and creativity allow him to adapt to students with various needs and skillsets.
In both high school and college, he acted in various theatre productions and sang in choirs. He has mastered the unique talent of singing the alphabet backward!
Matthew’s a big fan of German-style board games that rely on strong narratives and strategy in lieu of luck. He also writes fiction in his spare time.
