PrepNow Tutor - Erin S.
Erin earned a bachelor's degree in international business with minors in political science and French from the University of Nebraska. While in college, she interned on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and served as a page in the Nebraska State Legislature. After graduation, Erin worked with Teach for America for two years, a program that recruits college graduates to teach in under-performing schools. Following her two years of service, she joined the business world, serving as a marketing coordinator for a tech firm. Ultimately she decided her heart was in teaching, so she went back to school to earn her master of science in teaching while teaching full-time. Since her time with Teach for America, Erin has "never stopped searching for opportunities to teach and mentor."
Erin truly enjoys working with students and has seen great success in her tutoring. She seeks "to help children learn and grow as individuals and members of their communities." As a teacher and a tutor, helping children reach their full potential is one of her personal missions.
When Erin tutors, she starts from the ground up, showing her students where relevant formulas and rules come from in order to help them gain a better understanding of what they are learning. Erin believes that having a deeper understanding of topics will lead not only to higher scores, but also to more effective learning and application. Her methodology of teaching has proven successful; she has seen her students achieve excellent test score increases.
Erin has a wide variety of interests outside of teaching. She loves to travel, has been to over a dozen foreign countries, and has spent extended time studying in France. She is an avid reader and reads both for entertainment and to stay informed with current events. She has always been interested in politics and business and reads The Economist on a weekly basis. Erin also enjoys outdoor activities, such as water-skiing, snorkeling, rock climbing, and zip-lining.
