PrepNow Tutor - Pamela W.
Pamela earned her bachelor's in mathematics and computer science from the University of Rochester through a full-tuition scholarship from the Caroline Knox Foundation and a four-year Wilson Scholarship from the university.
She went into the aerospace industry, working first on the technical side at her company, and later as a writer and editor for the in-house media department. She says, "That experience in dual disciplines gave me great experience which I now use to concentrate solely on my tutoring work, where I am able to supply students with strong support in both STEM and English/writing areas."
After many years in aerospace, Pamela says, "I got to a point in my career where I wanted work that I felt contributed more to our country's and planet's success and thriving." Having mentored many junior employees during her time at the company, she says, "I felt being an educator was my key to contributing to that goal."
A tutor at our sister company, StudyPoint, since 2006, Pamela says, "I love working one-on-one with students so I can get to know them personally and develop an individualized tutoring program for them that addresses both their strengths and challenges."
Pamela describes herself as "a flexible and positive tutor who, at the same time, challenges my students to rise to their highest levels of achievement and take responsibility for their actions." She also hopes that while helping students achieve their program goals, she is providing knowledge and support that will be valuable to them "throughout their university years and beyond."
In high school, Pamela was active in Track and Field; Glee Club; Computer Club; National Honor Society; and the Concert, Marching, and Dance Bands. In college, she participated in school musicals.
These days, she enjoys yoga, gourmet cooking and baking, and traveling with her husband and three dogs in their motorhome. She has visited 21 of the 59 U.S. National Parks and plans to see them all! She loves singing and performing and has performed with a local group for the last 25 years. She says, "I strive to balance mind, body, and soul in all I do." Five years ago, she took up long-distance running and has since run seven marathons (as well as numerous other races of lesser distances)! She is working to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
