PrepNow Tutor - Stacy T.
Veteran elementary school teacher Stacy is motivated entirely by helping students to engage, develop, and actualize their lessons. She is a mom, athlete, musician, educator, and friend. She earned her BS at Winona State University where she studied education—with concentrations in both natural science and social science. From there, she moved to Minnesota State University, Mankato to obtain her master’s in curriculum and instruction with a focus on writing. Stacy is a lifelong learner, which is why she continued to take 60 credits worth of classes at various higher learning institutions.
“I knew since I was in junior high that I wanted to be a teacher. There was never a question that this was my path,” Stacy says. She has been an elementary classroom teacher since the late nineties. Additionally, Stacy has professionally tutored students from kindergarten to twelfth grade. She also spearheaded her school district’s middle school summer programming. In 2020, she began working with students who were preparing to take the ACT and SAT. This wide range of students is uniquely fulfilling. “The vertical scope of content development keeps my career fresh and exciting,” she explains.
Stacy strives to provide strategies a student can immediately employ. As such, her students’ confidence and scores consistently show growth. Upon meeting a student, the first thing Stacy does is find “what they already know, what experiences they have had to bring them to tutoring, and ask if they can identify what they feel are their strengths.” Once she knows what the student hopes to gain, they can outline a plan together—and adjust along the way. “Connecting and building trust are important to being partners in learning.” Stacy explains that she wants “sessions to be comfortable, fun, and purposeful.”
As an athlete, Stacy has played softball and volleyball, but her main focus was distance running. Now that she is a parent, she has coached softball, soccer, and track. Stacy loves to read and keeps a running tally of the number of books she’s read every year. She and her husband thoroughly enjoy supporting their two daughters as they chase their dreams.
