PrepNow Tutor - Howard C.
A results-oriented tutor with a positive personality, Howard has an MBA in marketing from Santa Clara University and a BA in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley. He was the recipient of the California Scholarship for high school students entering college. Over the years, Howard has built a successful career in technology sales and marketing--starting as a systems analyst and advancing up the ladder to vice president of marketing. He is also a founder of a technology company, which he ran for five years before selling it to its main competitor. Howard is currently building a career in education.
Howard first started tutoring the SAT and ACT in 2003 and later also taught English in China. "I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills with my students," Howard says. "I get satisfaction out of motivating students and seeing them improve their abilities, ultimately increasing their opportunities in life." In addition to test prep, Howard tutors algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. His past students have found him to be methodical, responsible, and motivating.
Informed by his experiences teaching in various contexts, Howard says, "I adopt the best teaching methods from different cultural and educational environments. My method is highly collaborative and allows students to learn how to solve problems." He's extremely patient and enjoys bringing his sense of humor into each interactive lesson. "I care about my students' progress and many have kept in touch over the years."
Howard was the captain of his high school soccer team and a member of his college's junior varsity team. In high school, he also participated in wrestling and track and field. Howard is heavily involved in his church; he leads a fellowship, acts as an English/Chinese interpreter during services, and sings in the choir. His hobbies are travel, photography, volunteer work, and a variety of sports. He has lived in Silicon Valley, Southern California, and Asia, and these experiences have directly enriched his life and mentoring skills. "You are never too old to learn," Howard says.
