PrepNow Tutor - Gerrit V.
Gerrit has taught college-level math (algebra, geometry, calculus) and biology (2025-2026) and coached students in athletics (2022-2023). Having held various leadership, coaching, and teaching positions throughout his academic and professional career, he has sharpened his teaching toolkit to adapt to learners with myriad backgrounds and abilities.
Gerrit earned a bachelor’s in general engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering from Oral Roberts University in May 2026; in addition to tutoring, he’s excited to start graduate school at the University of Texas at Arlington.
His favorite mentorship moment occurred while working as a Ninja Coach at Obstacle Warrior Kids. A little girl was crying, defeated by the ropes course, when he stepped in to help. “I worked with her and showed her the correct method until she was able to do it on her own. When she did, she cried out for her parents to come and watch because she was excited that she could finally do what her brother could.”
Gerrit opts for the Socratic method. “Leading students to be able to answer the questions on their own allows them to be able to better replicate problem-solving abilities,” he notes. His goal is for students to feel confident working independently and learn how to push through struggles, academically and beyond.
He’s proud to share that he received honors throughout high school and was on the Provost Honors list throughout college. He also competed in Formula SAE, an international collegiate engineering competition, and was part of a Tri-Beta Conference, a bioengineering medical society, and an undergraduate research program.
In his free time, Gerrit loves board games, reading, cooking, and good conversations. “I’m always down to learn something new or try something different,” he adds.
Fun fact: He ran his first marathon in 2023.
