Rashid's Bio

Rashid has tutored more than 500 students across middle school, high school, college, and adult learning levels; he has instructed the gamut of topics, including SAT and ACT prep, sciences, reading, math, and study skills. Rashid holds a BS in Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh, and from Boston University School of Public Health he has an MPH in healthcare management as well as certificate training in pharmaceutical development, delivery, and access. Since college, his career has combined healthcare, research, public health, and education. "I have worked in clinical research, program evaluation, public health research, healthcare consulting, community health, and tutoring," he says. A recent recipient of his MPH, Rashid is currently continuing his work in tutoring and academic support while pursuing opportunities in healthcare management, research, policy, and public health.

Rashid got started teaching and tutoring because he has always enjoyed helping people understand difficult material in a way that feels less intimidating. "Over time, tutoring became one of the most meaningful parts of my professional life because I saw how much confidence can change a student’s academic path," he explains. His proudest moments as a tutor are the ones where a student begins to believe in themselves after struggling for a long time. "Score increases are exciting, but what means the most to me is seeing a student realize that improvement is possible with the right structure, encouragement, and practice," he reflects. In addition to tutoring for the standardized tests, Rashid has extensive experience with the following math topics: pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, statistics, data interpretation, pre-calculus, and calculus.

Rashid's tutoring style is patient, structured, encouraging, and highly individualized. His philosophy is that tutoring should not just be about getting the right answer, it should help students understand how to think through a problem, how to recognize patterns, and how to trust their own ability to improve. "I also believe that confidence is a major part of academic success, especially in test preparation," he says. "A student who feels calm, prepared, and capable is much more likely to perform well."

Rashid has many accolades in his educational and professional career. He's received a young investigator reward, a student achievement award, and a graduate school preceptorship; he also has a best scientific talk award and a best undergraduate research award. Furthermore, as an undergraduate, Rashid received research recognition from the Institute for Rehabilitation Research.

In high school, Rashid was involved in the National Honor Society, student council, and hospital volunteering. In college, he became involved in neuroscience research, academic work, tutoring, and community-oriented activities. "These experiences helped me develop a strong interest in mentoring, education, healthcare, and service," he says.

Outside of work, Rashid enjoys volunteering, tutoring, reading about healthcare and public health, staying active, exploring cities, spending time with family and friends, and working on creative projects. "I have volunteered at a free clinic for 11 years, which has been one of the most meaningful parts of my life and has strengthened my commitment to service, healthcare access, and community support."

"A fun fact about me is that, aside from my time in college, I have lived on or within walking distance of the ocean my entire life, so the coast has always felt like home to me."
