PrepNow Tutor - Nicole C.
A highly experienced educator, Nicole holds an MS in environmental studies from the University of Michigan, Dearborn, and a BS in biology with a minor in math from Wayne State University, Detroit. She has served as a secondary math and science teacher for twenty-five years and currently teaches middle school science. “Teaching and learning are my passion,” Nicole says. “I will never stop learning.”
Nicole was inspired to pursue teaching by the outstanding teachers who guided and mentored her throughout her education. Since 2001, Nicole has taught middle school and high school math and science. While she considers herself an expert tutor in pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry, she also has notable experience tutoring SAT/ACT prep. “My proudest moment as a teacher was when one of my students told me she would not have graduated high school without my support,” Nicole shares. “I was always confident about my instruction, but this let me know that I was also building real relationships with my students.”
Nicole’s tutoring style is student-centered and heavily rooted in asking questions. “From my mentors, I learned to question students while teaching to assess their understanding and learn how they think about problems,” she explains. “This helps identify their learning style and uncover misconceptions.”
As a student, Nicole played basketball, softball, and volleyball. She was a Wayne State University Presidential Scholar, a University of Michigan Dearborn Merit Scholar, and the recipient of the Society of Women Engineers Madame Curie Award for Excellence in Science. She enjoys jogging, bicycling, kayaking, and dancing, and ran the Phoenix Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in 2004.
