Jennifer's Bio

Adept at tutoring both math and verbal skills, Jennifer has taught all 8th-12th grade math topics, Sunday School classes, and test prep; she is an expert at creating strategic, tailored learning plans. Jennifer has two degrees from the University of Notre Dame: a BS in applied and computational mathematics and statistics, and an MA in theology. She spent two years doing service in a parochial community while earning her master's degree, which was fully funded through the prestigious Echo Graduate Service Program. "During that time, I gained experience teaching children from a wide variety of backgrounds, including a few with learning disabilities," she shares. In addition to tutoring, she works as a data analyst.

"My proudest moment is when I could see substantial growth in one of my students with a learning disability after I had put in effort to build up his confidence in his own ability to learn," she reflects. Her second proudest moment is when two of her algebra students got 100s on a formerly daunting quiz.

Jennifer's teaching style adapts to the needs of the students. "My default teaching style is direct and teacher-led when I am first starting with a new student," she offers. "As I get to know the student better and trust has been built, I shift my teaching style to be one that asks more of the student to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills." She is also highly attentive to the questions that students have and ensures that they leave with a thorough and practiced understanding of the topic or question they brought to her.

In high school, Jennifer was a member of the National Honor Society and enjoyed varsity sailing as well as tap dancing. In both high school and college, she played in the jazz band, concert band, and pit orchestra. She was also in the marching band in college.

Jennifer is a board game fanatic and is always ready for a friendly or competitive mental challenge. "I enjoy playing saxophone in my free time and going on long walks while listening to podcasts," she says. "I also love to dance, whether it be two-stepping or swing dancing at a bar or tap dancing on my portable tap floor at home."

Fun fact: she has visited 15 countries and lived abroad!
