PrepNow Tutor - David H.
David’s specialties include math (various levels, including algebra, calculus, and trigonometry), physics, and SAT/ACT/GED test prep. He earned a BS in physics and an MA in education from Virginia Tech. His experiences as a learning assistant in college gave him a wealth of knowledge in working with a diverse range of students. After graduating, he spent 2 years teaching English in public schools in Japan. In addition to tutoring, he works as a sales engineer at a Japanese technology company, which allows him to practice his language skills!
“A recent proud moment was when a student I have been tutoring in trigonometry called me right after a test to tell me that he ‘thought he had aced' the test,” he recalls. The student had previously failed the course, but after working with David, felt motivated and proud.
He describes his tutoring style as calm and patient. “I try to break concepts down into steps so that they are easy to understand,” he explains. Having seen how building confidence can boost a student’s performance, he puts in extra effort to create an open, supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable trying new skills and learning from mistakes. “I believe that students can learn anything as long as they genuinely believe that they can.”
As a student, he was involved in tennis, jazz band (playing the tenor sax), E-sports, and a Japanese conversation club. His high GPA also earned him a spot on the dean’s list several times at Virginia Tech.
In his free time, he enjoys video games, pickleball, and visiting parks and coffee shops in the DFW metroplex.
