Polux Gabriel's Bio

Polux has several years of experience working with students in courses like Algebra (I & II), Trigonometry, Geometry, PreCalculus, Calculus (AB & BC), and Physics (I & II). He has helped students grasp concepts ranging from elementary basics through AP courses and beyond.

Polux earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theoretical physics from the University of Edinburgh, where his top-ranking grades earned him two Certificates of Merit in 2020 and 2021. Since graduating, he has tutored math and science at every level, from elementary school through AP and college courses. “Alongside my work with students, I continually sharpen my own skills in physics and mathematics, ensuring that I bring fresh insight, depth, and enthusiasm into every lesson,” he notes.

The experience of tutoring math and reading at a local learning center in high school stuck with him and later inspired him to join the University of Edinburgh’s MathBuddies program. Polux’s proudest moment involved helping a “defeated” student grow into a better learner, eventually excelling in all of their courses. “It stayed with me as it emphasized just how important the right guidance and encouragement can be,” he posits.

“My approach is guided by the philosophy that confidence, understanding, and engagement are all interconnected,” he states. After assessing strengths and weaknesses, he focuses on breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps while catering to his students’ interests to keep them engaged. “When a student likes what they're learning, knows what to do, or knows themselves to be capable, they not only engage more deeply, but they also retain the knowledge longer,” he adds. Ultimately, he aims to foster critical thinking, curiosity, and independence to set students up for better futures as learners and budding professionals.

At the University of Edinburgh, he’s proud of having earned a summer research scholarship to work first-hand with a professional researcher. He also participated in Model United, the chemistry club, and various role-playing societies.

When he’s not pondering physics theories, he enjoys creative hobbies like playing music (guitar and piano), drawing, painting, and experimenting in the kitchen. Fun fact: Polux has lived in five separate countries: Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, the United States, and the United Kingdom!
