Rainier's Bio

Rainier is a very calm and patient tutor passionate about helping his students. He holds an MS in physics from the University of Central Florida, an MS in statistics & data science from the University of Central Florida, and a BS in physics from Norfolk State University. Throughout the pursuit of his degrees, Rainier tutored and worked as a physics teaching assistant.

Rainier has been tutoring since 2009. “I love tutoring because it gives me the satisfaction of helping and connecting with students, as well as the ability to continuously learn and experience new problems and ways to solve them,” he says. Rainier has worked with hundreds of students on math subjects up to multivariate calculus, standardized test prep, and algebra to calculus-based physics courses, including AP physics. As a graduate teaching assistant, Rainier led problem-solving sessions in physics, held office hours for tutoring, and taught the laboratory sessions of physics I and II.

“My tutoring style can be described as patient, verbose, and very accommodating,” Rainier says. “I will spend all the time necessary to help a student understand a concept or problem. It's whatever works best for the student. I firmly believe in the ‘reach one teach one’ philosophy because for every person I reach and help, hopefully, they too can reach out and teach somebody else what I taught them and we all can grow as a unified whole, one person at a time.”

Throughout high school and college, Rainier was a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, Alpha Lambda Delta National Honors Society, American Physics Society, American Chemical Society, and National Society for Black Engineers. He is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships for both his studies and his teaching, and he has published two research papers in scientific journals.

Rainier enjoys playing video games, watching TV shows and anime, reading manga, and spending time with friends. “My first job was at Chuck E. Cheese and I had to wear the Chuckie costume,” Rainier says. “It was extremely hot in there!"
