Elizabeth's Bio

A dedicated educator with a wide range of math experiences, Elizabeth is goal-oriented and committed to going the extra mile to exceed expectations. She holds a BA in pure & applied mathematics from Stevens Institute of Technology and an MAT in secondary mathematics education, grades 7 - 12, from New York University. She was a Lawrence T. Babbio Pinnacle Scholar and recipient of numerous honors. After completing her master’s degree and student teaching, Elizabeth taught ICT Regents algebra I at the 9th-grade level. She is now transitioning to tutoring full-time.

Elizabeth started tutoring as a high school junior. A high-achieving student in her school's science and engineering program, she was recommended to become a peer tutor by the National Honor Society. She continued to tutor throughout college and graduate school and began teaching in a classroom immediately after finishing her schooling. “It has always been incredibly fulfilling to utilize my understanding of certain topics to advance the work and achievements of others,” Elizabeth says. “Seeing that ‘aha moment!’ in my students as they find the puzzle piece they are missing is greatly satisfying.” Elizabeth enjoys supporting students' short- and long-term goals and guiding them as they grow. Throughout her career, she has taught algebra I and II, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus up to multivariate calculus, and statistics.

“My tutoring style is student-oriented,” Elizabeth says, explaining that she does her best to meet student needs based on their current progress. “I am willing to re-explain a concept in as many different ways as many times as necessary to ensure student understanding, including interactive methods that allow students to independently identify and explore concepts.” Elizabeth also uses a goal-oriented approach to ensure her students take the steps they need to reach their goals. She explains, “Do they want to deeply understand the patterns in the concepts we cover, or is their focus more geared towards a certain career path? How will they use what they learn in this math class along the way? Is every concept instrumental in their success, or should we focus more on specific identified areas they are likely to use more often?” No matter the student's starting point, Elizabeth is capable and willing to meet students at their level and focus on development at the students' pace.

In high school, Elizabeth held the highest GPA of a female student in her graduating class and was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society, swim team, and the Science and Engineering Magnet Program. In college, she was a member of the Filipino Association at Stevens Tech, Stevens A Cappella, the archery club, and the Castle Point Anime Convention.

Currently, Elizabeth is an avid concert-goer and video game player. She enjoys reading, exploring with friends, and spending time with her family. “Though I am still young, I love to travel and have taken advantage of opportunities to visit four different countries so far!”
