PrepNow Tutor - Lennie A.
A Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, Lennie taught for many years at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and the University of Kentucky. Lennie holds a BS in mathematics from Northeastern University and a PhD in mathematics from Cornell University, where he developed his love for teaching math. Throughout his teaching career, he has taught all levels of math from the simplest algebra to advanced differential equations.
“My teaching style is to get the students to THINK about what they are doing and to have fun,” Lennie says. “I find that many students have a fear of math or a fear of getting a wrong answer. I encourage them to solve the problems the way they think, even if that differs from the teacher’s method.” However, Lennie explains that students must understand all the facts given to them and what they need to do to get to the right answer. He also emphasizes the importance of students learning to double-check their answers. Lennie takes great pride in his students’ excitement when they understand a new subject.
Lennie is currently enjoying retirement with his wife. He has three children and six grandchildren, who he loves mentoring in math and puzzle solving. He also enjoys brain teasers, sports, metal detecting, gardening, and completing research in Prime Numbers. Lennie was called the “Yankee Professor” at the University of Kentucky because of his accent.
