PrepNow Tutor - Daniel S.
A PhD student and test prep tutor, Daniel holds two degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute: a BS in computer science and an MS in artificial intelligence. He has completed several internships with the Army Corps of Engineers, researching system robustness and road network resilience. Daniel is currently pursuing a PhD in data science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, studying robustness and bias of LLMs.
Daniel started tutoring in college. As an undergraduate teaching assistant at WPI, he provided individualized tutoring to several students for an introductory calculus class. “My proudest moment was explaining one topic to a student one week, and then hearing them correctly answer questions building on that topic the following week,” he says. Since then, he’s taught and tutored linear algebra, single and multivariable calculus, statistics, and data management and information retrieval.
“My tutoring style tends to focus on asking leading questions to have the student figure out the topic or specific question themselves,” Daniel says. “I believe that simply having an answer being given isn't the best way to learn, and I strive to help students develop better strategies to learn on their own.”
In college, Daniel participated in the Data Science Club. He also played pickleball, badminton, and tennis with friends. Daniel graduated from undergrad with honors and was frequently on his college's dean's list. He’s an avid fan of hiking, reading fantasy and thriller books, exploring cities on foot, and working out. He also loves watching documentaries with topics varying from ancient history to physics. “I can speak, read, and write in Russian.”
