PrepNow Tutor - Omar S.
A dedicated educator and coach, Omar is passionate about helping students grow academically, personally, and athletically by creating structured, supportive, and motivating environments. He holds a BA magna cum laude in education with a focus in math and science and a minor in Spanish from the University of Texas at Arlington. Since graduating, he has built his career in education, student development, and coaching. “I began by gaining classroom experience through student teaching in both Irving ISD and Dallas ISD, while also serving as an AVID tutor - supporting students in advanced math courses across multiple Mesquite ISD campuses.” Currently, Omar works as a 7th Grade Advanced Math Teacher, AVID Coordinator, AVID elective 8th Grade Teacher, Math Team Lead, and athletic coach. He also serves as a personal soccer skills coach. “Across all of my roles, I’m passionate about helping students and athletes build confidence, leadership skills, discipline, and long-term success both inside and outside the classroom.”
Omar started teaching and tutoring through his passion for helping students build confidence in subjects they found challenging, particularly math. In college, he worked as an AVID tutor. “That experience, along with my student teaching placements in Irving ISD and Dallas ISD, confirmed my passion for education,” he says. His proudest moments as a teacher have been seeing students grow both academically and personally throughout the school year. “Whether it’s helping struggling students improve their confidence in math, watching AVID students become more organized and goal-oriented, or seeing athletes develop leadership and resilience through coaching, these moments reminded me why I chose this career,” Omar explains. “Knowing that I can positively impact students’ growth, mindset, and future opportunities is the most rewarding part of what I do.” Throughout his career, Omar has tutored students in middle school math, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and pre-calculus.
Omar’s primary focus has been academic support and skill development; however, as an AVID teacher, he has also taught and prepared students for the TSI Math and Reading standardized assessment tests by reinforcing foundational skills, test-taking strategies, critical thinking, and academic readiness. “My background in algebra, geometry, and advanced math instruction provides a strong foundation for supporting standardized test concepts and helping students build confidence in their academic abilities.”
In high school, Omar was actively involved in several academic and leadership organizations, including the National Honor Society, student council, Academic Decathlon, and the Texas PALS program. He also played soccer. In college, he continued building his leadership and mentoring experience through student teaching, tutoring, and working closely with students in both academic and athletic settings.
Outside of work, Omar stays very active through soccer and running. “As a bilingual professional fluent in English and Spanish, I bring strong communication and collaboration skills to every team and initiative I support,” Omar shares.
