PrepNow Tutor - Jennifer S.
A veteran educator, Jennifer has over twenty years of experience in both the classroom and as a tutor. She holds a BS from Wright State University in secondary education with a focus in chemistry and physics, and graduated summa cum laude; additionally she has an MA in education technology from the University of Phoenix.
Jennifer worked as a high school science teacher for over fifteen years, during which time she was designated a master teacher. For seven years she worked as an owner and executive director of a learning center focused on students with disabilities, and later became a general sales manager at KidStrong. Jennifer is currently pursuing new opportunities in the field of educational technology (EdTech) and tutoring test prep.
Jennifer has been tutoring since she was in high school. “I decided to teach high school science because science has always been a passion of mine,” Jennifer shares. “One of my proudest moments as a teacher was when I ran into a former student and she told me how easy her college science classes were because of me. It was amazing to see one of my students thriving as an adult!” Since 1995, Jennifer has tutored students from second grade to college level in a variety of subjects: math (algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, statistics, college algebra); science (chemistry, biology, physics); and test prep (SAT, ACT, MCAT, ASVAB).
“I love to create analogies and strategies that are memorable and relatable,” Jennifer says when asked about her tutoring style. “For example, most students will remember new math concepts if you can relate it to money. From my experience teaching high school, students learn better from instructors who are high-energy, engaging, and fun. They also have to feel a certain level of trust with their instructors.”
Jennifer graduated from high school first in her class in science. She participated in marching band, winter guard, softball, soccer, and SWAG at Bands of America Summer Symposium.
“I love spending time with my family,” Jennifer says. “We like to go golfing, play pool, ride motorcycles, travel, and swim.” Jennifer was a finalist for a TEDx talk and her topic was "Supporting All Learners."
When asked to recount a fun fact, Jennifer shares that she applied to be an astronaut with NASA when she was younger. “I was rejected for being ‘too young’ and they said I should apply when I was older,” Jennifer recalls. “Ironically, now that I'm older, I could never handle the physical requirements.”
