PrepNow Tutor - Aran B.
A patient math tutor, Aran holds a BS in mathematics with a minor in statistics from Slippery Rock University; during his time as an undergraduate he was consistently on the Dean’s List and was named Outstanding Junior of the Year by the Math Department. He is currently preparing for the GRE and plans to pursue a master’s degree in math with a focus on nonlinear dynamics.
Aran has been tutoring since he was in college. “I started teaching math because I really love helping students overcome the difficulties that they have at the start of a tutoring session,” Aran says. He has several years of experience tutoring all levels of math up to calculus 3, as well as differential equations and elementary statistics. “I believe that the most important thing when educating is establishing a good foundation and being able to demonstrate to your student how everything intertwines,” Aran says.
Aran describes his tutoring style as guided and in-depth—while also a bit hands-off. “I help my students understand how to approach their problems, explain where they may be getting stuck, and provide outside examples that help clarify topics,” he says. However, Aran emphasizes that it’s most impactful and engaging for the students if they lead the work. “That way, when it comes to a classroom or testing environment, their knowledge is actually built up and experienced, rather than just memorized,” Aran explains.
In high school, Aran participated in Quizbowl, track and field, a computer science club, and the orchestra. In college, he was in the Math Club, Statistics Club, and Computer Technology Club; he was also a member of Gamma Iota Sigma.
In his free time, he enjoys reading historical fiction and watching comedies. Aran’s favorite football team is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
