PrepNow Tutor - JD R.
Patient and encouraging, JD specializes in math and physics and is eager to find the ideal approach for each student. They’ve worked with students ranging from second graders to undergraduates. JD earned a BA in physics from New York University (NYU) and, as of 2024, is pursuing a BA in mathematics from CUNY City College. After graduating from NYU, they worked as an adjunct TA for various introductory physics courses.
Having tutored since high school, JD has keen experience with various teaching modalities. “I love the process of finding what teaching methods and concept explanations work for each individual student. We are all so different!”
JD’s patience and diligence allow them to tailor each session to fit each student. “I will always keep trying different explanation methods until one clicks with my students—I won't give up!” they share. They’re a firm believer that with the right guidance, anyone can overcome learning blocks and make significant progress. “I don't think that there are any subjects that are inherently more important or difficult than others—each student just needs the right encouragement and patience,” they add.
As an undergraduate, their impressive research on fluid dynamics received funding (via NYU) to study at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. In high school, they were involved in Gay-Straight Alliance, ballet, and Irish dance; in college, they were a member of the Society of Physics Students and Community Agriculture Project.
In their spare time, JD enjoys fashion and fiber arts (sewing, knitting, crocheting). They’re a huge Swiftie who enjoys all kinds of music, from goth to country! Passionate about self-expression, they’re eager to get back into Irish dancing. Additionally, they love movies, books, and “absorbing as much information as they can get their hands on!”
