PrepNow Tutor - Mikaila L.
Creative and inquisitive, Mikaila has taught and tutored multiple subjects in physics and all levels of math, from middle school algebra to undergraduate calculus and statistics. She double majored in math and physics and received her BS from the University of North Texas, where she also earned a master's in physics. Currently a PhD student in physics, Mikaila focuses on quantum optics with applications in quantum biology; additionally, she teaches electricity and magnetism labs as a teaching assistant.
Mikaila has been tutoring and teaching for almost a decade. As an undergraduate, she worked at the physics tutoring center on campus, helping students in multiple fields of physics. Since then, she has also tutored high schoolers in math. Her experience in curriculum development—she is currently rewriting the lab manual for the undergraduate electricity and magnetism labs—gives her expert insight into how to guide students through even the trickiest topics.
"My teaching style is rigorous and thorough, but still friendly and approachable," says Mikaila. "I believe that anyone can reach their educational goals, and that requires a patient and understanding teacher. This is the type of teacher that I strive to be," she declares. Mikaila enthusiastically welcomes and answers all student questions—curiosity is key to lifelong learning!
Mikaila is proud to share that she graduated from the UNT Honors College with Distinguished Honors, which requires over twenty hours of honors courses along with a thesis.
In high school, she participated in a recreational problem-solving group called Destination Imagination. She also played the flute in her school's band.
Outside of work and her dissertation, Mikaila loves to play with her two cats, Milky and Fennel. "I also enjoy crafting, sewing, crocheting, and playing video games when I have time," she adds.
