PrepNow Tutor - Val M.
Math is Val’s bread and butter; for the past twenty years, she has taught intermediate algebra, college-level algebra, pre-calculus, trigonometry, calculus (I, II, and III), and finite math at a community college. Additionally, she has tutored high school students in pre-calculus and calculus (AB and BC) for over three years. She earned a bachelor’s in math with a minor in statistics from the University of Kerala, India. She later earned an MS in mathematics from Texas A&M University.
Val’s teaching philosophy is efficient and tenacious. First and foremost, she gauges a student’s prior knowledge so she knows where to start. “If they know how to solve them, then I advance to the next topic,” she explains. A firm believer in the power of persistence, “Practice makes the difference in approaching and solving math problems,” she notes. Her expertise in the topic along with her decades of experience allow her to break tricky concepts into smaller moving parts, allowing students to develop a strong foundation and, later, approach challenges with greater confidence.
In her free time, she loves cooking, gardening, and doting on her cat, Ella.
