PrepNow Tutor - Lathan L.
Lathan has taught STEM courses ranging from math, college-level biology, and chemistry to graduate-level biochemistry, molecular biology, and clinical science. He has experience working at the Johns Hopkins CTY (Center for Talented Youth), which gave him the skillset to work with students of various backgrounds and abilities. "Coming from an educational psychology background, I aim to foster intrinsic motivation from the students I work with," he shares.
He received his BS in biochemistry from Baylor University, where he also obtained a minor in mathematics. As of fall 2023, he is a PhD candidate at the Baylor College of Medicine, where he is getting his degree in biomedical sciences. The focus of his doctoral work involves researching the physiological role of proteins in proper muscle system function and development. Lathan's goal is to be a university researcher and teacher one day!
Lathan works hard to uncover the underlying motivations and goals of his students. "With those things in mind, I aim to consistently provide interactive instruction where the student and I work together to achieve their goal," he offers. In fact, Lathan focuses on increasing the knowledge, success, and goal achievement specific to each student. "Given my expertise in the STEM fields, I will also expand on content (per the comfortability of the student) to help maintain their engagement—and allow them to shine in the classroom," he concludes.
In high school and college, Lathan participated in marching band, theatre, and the Math Club. He loves doing research, even in his free time! "I truly love working in the lab, constantly seeking to discover new truths in medicine." Outside of the lab, he enjoys spending time with friends and trying new foods.
