PrepNow Tutor - Rene R.
Educator and graduate student Rene is dedicated to seeking opportunities for growth and learning. He strives to have a positive impact in all that he does. His bachelor’s degree in mathematics is from the University of the Philippines. He also earned a master of education from Houston Christian University. Currently, he is working toward a second master of education at Prairie View A&M University.
As a second-year undergraduate student, Rene had his first encounter with tutoring. That experience was the beginning of a passion for teaching and a longstanding interest in assisting others with their academic struggles. As a new teacher, Rene was awarded Rookie Teacher of the Year. Today, Rene has been teaching for over a decade. In his career, he’s been privileged to work with diverse groups of students, fostering equitable and inclusive learning environments. In addition to teaching students, he also mentors beginning teachers—planning, modeling, co-teaching, and providing feedback.
“My teaching is constantly focused on individualized learning,” Rene says. He regularly adapts his approach to meet the unique needs and learning styles of each student. “I strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages active participation, critical thinking, and a growth mindset.” His teaching style is positive, fun, and most importantly, student-centered. His goal in incorporating various teaching strategies and resources is to make learning engaging, relevant, and enjoyable.
Rene was born and raised in the Philippines, though he has lived and worked in the US for 15 years. He still loves to travel to new places. He is also adventurous in his approach to new food and cuisine. Each week, he either tries a new cuisine or visits a new restaurant. Rene also enjoys riding his bike every weekend and taking care of his garden year-round.
