Bryon has experience teaching 7th-grade physics, 8th-grade chemistry, 9th-grade algebra, and 10th-grade statistics. He has also been tutoring SAT and ACT prep—including math and physics subject tests—for over 7 years. He earned his bachelor’s in physics from UC Berkeley and studied mathematics at Southwestern College, where he had been employed and trained as a tutor. “I immediately fell in love with the job, and found deep joy in helping students to gain confidence and understanding,” he shares. Since college, he’s been tutoring and volunteering as a community organizer with an organization based on humanism.
Bryon’s style is engaging and flexible. He likes to get to know his students so he can better tailor each session to their needs and interests. “I believe that learning, especially one-on-one, should be fun and engaging for students,” he shares. No stranger to academic achievement, he knows the importance of practice, recall, and deeper understanding. “I’ve found that frequent quizzing is a major key to success,” he explains.
At UCLA, he earned a Scholarship Recognition Award, which is given to high-achieving students who show outstanding potential for success. Four years in a row, he held a spot on Southwestern College’s President’s list for achieving a 4.0 GPA.
In college, he enjoyed organic gardening, and writing and performing slam poetry.
In his free time, he enjoys hosting gatherings with friends, hiking, and studying philosophy and psychology. He’s invested in the principles of effective altruism and religious humanism. Fun fact: he can solve a Rubik's cube in under a minute!
