PrepNow Tutor - Kerry K.
Kerry has tutored math to students ranging from age eight to sixty-five over the course of two decades. He received a BS in statistics from Lehigh University and then worked in banking for a short time. He found his love of tutoring in 2000 when his neighbor's granddaughter needed help with school—Kerry has never looked back since! He has taught a myriad of subjects, from elementary math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to AP statistics, calculus, and SAT/ACT math prep. He is proud to have worked with several hundred students in his long career. "I enjoy seeing students progress through their studies and, years later, contact me about how well they are doing in their careers," he shares.
Kerry's tutoring style is based on interaction and personalization. He prefers to interact with his students and see how much they know before tacking on new concepts. "While it's important first and foremost for the students to understand the lesson, I like to make the lessons more lighthearted and fun," explains Kerry. He likes to challenge students in innovative ways to liven up the material. "Since many students struggle in math and find it boring, this approach often works." However, Kerry knows each student is unique and tailors his approach to suit the student's learning style, interests, and prior knowledge.
In his free time, Kerry enjoys exercising, watching team sports, being outdoors, playing games, mastering puzzles, listening to music, and baking. Fun fact: Kerry was named after the old comic strip character Kerry Drake!
