PrepNow Tutor - Mandy S.
Mandy has been teaching math for twenty years and loves helping her students reach their academic goals. She holds a BS with honors in industrial engineering and an MS in health systems from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an EdS in mathematics education from the University of Georgia. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Mandy worked as an industrial engineer in a hospital before going on to teach high school mathematics for fifteen years in all grades and subjects. Eventually, she left teaching to become a co-owner of a scuba dive company, running the company and planning all of the trips and classes. Mandy has since become an executive administrator for a small mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering firm. She currently splits her time between the firm and tutoring students of all ages in all subjects, including test prep.
Mandy decided to pursue a teaching career after her younger brother’s school career day, where she fell in love with working with students. “I love watching the light bulb turn on when students finally get a concept they've been struggling to understand,” she says. “I've found being able to help students achieve their goals and having an impact on their lives is more rewarding than any other job I've had.” When asked about her approach to tutoring, Mandy explains that she has a relaxed teaching style and adjusts her approach based on her students’ needs. “All students have different needs and different approaches work with different students,” she explains. “I think the best teaching approach is to take feedback from your students and go with what works best with that particular student since learning is definitely not one size fits all. “
As a student herself, Mandy was a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club and was on the marching band. She is an avid scuba diver, reader, and traveler. When she’s not working with her students, she can be found exploring exotic places, under the water, or just hanging out with her two kids (usually on a beach somewhere). Mandy has completed over three hundred scuba dives and has been one hundred and fifty-two feet underwater.
