Victoria's Bio

Victoria earned her Bachelor's in Business--Economics with a minor in Accounting from the University of California, Los Angeles. Fall semester of her senior year, she studied abroad at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, focusing on finance and economics.

Since graduating, Victoria has worked as an accountant in companies from the entertainment industry to the nonprofit sector. As an accountant working with charter schools within the LA school district, she was involved in the budgeting and forecast process to make sure that schools were financially stable and had sufficient resources so that kids could have the highest quality of education. "I am very proud and happy to have been part of the education sector," she says, "working with school faculty in ensuring that students had the best experiences in school." She is currently the accounting manager for a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds for various health, social, and educational issues.

"Growing up, I always found myself helping friends with homework or my little brother with his assignments," Victoria says. She started tutoring formally as a sophomore in high school, when one of her close friends had so many tutoring students she asked Victoria if she could take some! "That blossomed into tutoring almost full-time during my summers and part-time during the school years throughout college," she says. "I love the challenges but also the fulfillment I get from teaching when I see improvement in students' grades. It's exciting to know you're leaving an imprint however large or small in a student's life. I love mentoring students and offering a helping hand wherever I can."

Victoria has been a private in-home tutor since 2004 with students from grades 2 through 11. She has taught elementary- and middle-school science, math up to Pre-Calculus, and grammar for the SAT.

"I believe that in asking questions and having the students think rather than telling them what to do, they will better retain that knowledge," Victoria says. "Rather than directing the students on exactly how to solve a problem, I have them find the answers through exploration. I'll ask them questions, see how their thought process unfolds, and guide them to the correct answers."

In high school, Victoria was active in the marching and symphonic bands, cross-country, and track and field. She was also a staff writer for the school newspaper, the "Rampage." In college, she was involved in a co-ed fraternity called Alpha Phi Omega, a service organization "where I had the pleasure of volunteering and giving back to the community." She was also a part of the accounting honor society, Beta Alpha Psi.

These days, Victoria enjoys all things outdoors including running, biking, hiking, camping, and snowboarding. She also loves spending time with friends and family trying new restaurants and bars, board game nights, watching movies, and traveling. Fun fact: "If I could eat Mexican or Korean food for the rest of my life, I would be happy! Oh, and anything matcha green tea-flavored for dessert!"
