Schools in Category: Public
Public universities are generally state-funded and have some affiliation with the government. While this does mean that, to some extent, the schools are subject to government regulation, it also has the beneficial implication that students may experience lower tuition costs; these costs may be substantially higher for out-of-state residents than for in-state students, though in many cases the tuition for both is lower than that of private universities. Public universities generally do not have any official religious affiliation. Every U.S. state has at least one public university to its name, and some of the larger states have upwards of 30 public institutions.
