“Find a good balance between work and play, hone your oral and written communications skills, explore new and exciting subject matter, meet people who come from different backgrounds, and don’t be afraid to ask for help,” advises Natalie, former director of admissions and financial aid at Cornell University. She has reviewed over 70,000 applications and conducted more than 2,500 interviews.
Natalie received both her BA in psychology and theater and her MBA from the institution at which she began her career: the University of Michigan. She held multiple titles during her eleven years in the admissions department, including director of student affairs and enrollment management. After her seven-year stretch at Cornell, she decided to use her insider knowledge to help students navigate the complicated admissions process as a college admissions consultant.
Natalie remembers John. He was intelligent, driven, and active in his community, but “could not sit still long enough to complete the SAT.” Like many parents, John’s were concerned that being “labeled” with a learning disability would hurt their son, but Natalie helped them understand that a diagnosis would help him, not hold him back. With his ADHD confirmed, John was provided opportunities to get up during the test and let go of his pent-up energy, allowing him to focus when he sat back down. He did extremely well on the special accommodation test and was accepted to 12 out of 16 schools.
Outside of work, Natalie enjoys theatre and hiking. She serves several philanthropic organizations in fundraising and advocacy. A voracious reader, she is also fascinated by new achievements in science, particularly medical technology.
