PrepNow Tutor - Antione G.
A dynamic admissions consultant who excels at conveying nuance, Antione’s experience in various industries makes him uniquely skilled at helping students meet multiple goals. He holds a BA in political science from the University of Pennsylvania and is pursuing an MS in real estate from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. In 2007, Antione joined the Oliver Scholars Program, a NYC-based nonprofit that prepares low-income students of color for admission to highly selective high schools and colleges. He has consistently volunteered with this program since 2011 as a tutor, lead counselor, Alumni Council member, and Co-Chair of the Associate Board. In his many years of mentorship and admissions consulting, the Oliver Program has helped hundreds of students achieve their educational and professional dreams.
“I love helping students uncover their true gifts and passions in life,” Antione says when asked about his inspiration behind admissions consulting. “Additionally, I know the long-term impact that going to college can have on one's career and the impact it can have on changing their trajectory for the rest of their lives, positively benefiting themselves and their families for many years to come.” Antione's principal strength is coaching essay writing, as he loves helping students vocalize their passions and interests in an engaging way. He’s also an expert in school strategy, assisting students to discover what programs are the best fit for them and their families. “I like to ask my students questions to uncover what was not previously discussed,” Antione explains. “I believe that this makes them more introspective, and strengthens their ability to communicate their values and visions for themselves to admissions committees in their own unique voice.”
The best advice Antione can give a new college student is to keep an open mind. “Even as soon as my first semester, my career interests had changed, and I've been able to experience so many different careers through internships that I didn't even know existed during high school,” he shares. “The number of available opportunities will be endless, so explore as much as you can and don't hold yourself back.” When asked to share a success story, Antione recalls a student he worked with who was nervous about the admissions process and fell short of her target score on the SAT despite early preparation. She was very discouraged, but Antione kept her engaged throughout the process and connected her with additional tutoring resources that allowed her to raise her score significantly. “At the end of the process, she received admission to Columbia, University of Chicago, Penn, NYU, and the University of Michigan, and matriculated to University of Chicago.”
In addition to his work in admissions consulting and mentorship, Antione has been a real estate agent since he was nineteen. He has interned in the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs under President Obama, consulted for federal agencies in Washington, DC, advised high-net-worth individuals on commercial real estate investments at Morgan Stanley in NYC, and is co-founder and COO of a house flipping and real estate investment company.
Outside of work, Antione loves architecture and interior design and enjoys watching HGTV, Architectural Digest, and travel vloggers on YouTube. In his free time, he likes going to museums, listening to live music, and exploring the sights and sounds of the city. Antione is really into the arts and has played saxophone for many years. He’s also an avid track & field fan and recently got back into powerlifting and bodybuilding after a several-year hiatus.
